A temporary restraining order (TRO) has been issued by the Supreme Court, temporarily stopping the collection of garbage fees in Quezon City, a text message says from SC Public Information Office chief and spokesman Thedore Te.


QC garbage collection fees have been going from a range of P100 to P500 on domestic households. A request to issue a restraining order from Jose Ferrer Jr., a resident of Kamias Road in Quezon City has been granted by the high court.

Ferrer argues that a separate garbage collection fee would be tantamount to 'double taxation'. The task is, but a primary duty of the local government to be funded from the taxes already paid by the residents.

A portion of the city revenues could be dedicated to garbage collection and other essential services, Ferrer added.

Due to cardiac arrest, former Quezon City mayor and Congressman Ismael Mathay Jr passed away on Dec. 25 (Wed). The news was sent as a Tweet by Thelma S. San Juan, a lifestyle editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The then Mayor was brought by his family to The Medical City in Pasig City after a "sudden" cardiac arrest but sadly, it was his time to bid farewell.

Mathay served as vice mayor of Quezon City in 1967. He also became a representative of Quezon City's 4th district from 1988-1992. He then served as QC mayor for three terms, covering the years 1992 to 2001.

Mathay died at the age of 81.
