Riot broke out in Singapore little India

A riot broke out in what is known as Singapore's little India on Dec. 8, Sunday, causing damages to police cars while other vehicles were burned. The riot followed a road accident where a Bangladeshi worker got hit and killed by a speeding bus.

What occurred next is a rather bigger commotion when about 400 people started to attack the vehicles of the responding policemen.

Witnesses of the riot told Channel News Asia that there were also broken bottles while vehicles were burning on the streets.

The situation was put to control after the elite Special Operations Command and Gurkhas members responded to the scene.

The area where the riot happened is highly populated with workers from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Singapore's home minister official Teo Chee Hean said:
this is a serious incident which has resulted in injuries and damage to public property.
The situation is now under control. Police will spare no efforts to apprehend the subjects involved in the riot.
Singapore's little India is a highly crowded place specially on Sundays.
