Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Update Hope Remains

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update remains missing but it’s not alone and today, yet another missing Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update surfaced on the horizon, giving hope to Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners who are still holding out for an official update from Verizon.
In July of last year, Google announced Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, an update that joined the current Nexus 7 on stage and an update that replaced the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update. The update almost immediately rolled out to Nexus devices including the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. However, carrier-branded Galaxy Nexus variants were made to wait.
As the months went by, Galaxy Nexus owners began to wonder if they’d ever see Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. It wasn’t until October that we finally saw the Sprint Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update emerge, months after the initial release. The Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update, the more popular of the two, remained missing. In fact, it still remains missing as we head into the month of February.
Last year, a Verizon representative told us that the update is still coming but that he did not know when it would be arriving for Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners. We still don’t know when it’s going to be touching down, or if it will be arriving, though we have seen two glimmers of hope in the new year.
The first arrived a few weeks ago in the form of a Vodafone Australia Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update. The update, still in testing, should be rolling out sometime in the next few weeks. Today, another glimmer of hope has emerged as Australian carrier Telstra says that it too is testing a Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update and that it expects to roll it out in late February, February 25th to be exact.
Now, this doesn’t confirm anything for Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners but what it does show is that carriers are still working to get this update out to Galaxy Nexus owners, six months later. In other words, the leaves the door open, just a crack, for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that users are still holding out for.
If and when the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update rolls out, it will be the last major Android update for a device that has seen its fair share of controversy. Google confirmed that Android 4.4 KitKat would not arrive for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus due to its age.
Of course, the Galaxy Nexus does have a wonderful development community which means that users can get a version of Android 4.4 KitKat right now. It’s not the official update from Google but it’ll do. Likewise, those who aren’t holding out any hope for an Android 4.3 update can opt to do the same though again, there is still a chance we could see Verizon push the update out.
