Apparently, Casey made some postings on his Facebook account - photos with captions that disappointed Singapore people.
In separate status updates, the British guy posted a photo of his five-year-old son with the texts "Daddy, where is your car and who are all these poor people?"
In the other post is Casey's Porsche alongside the comment: "Ahhhhhhh reunited with my baby. Normal service can resume, once I have washed the stench of public transport off me."
What happened after is a series of backlashes and online verbal 'abuses'. To which, Mr. Casey spoke about, as:
In the past 24 hours, due to a security breach of my personal Facebook page . . . my family and especially my five-year-old Singaporean son have suffered extreme emotional and verbal abuse online.Singaporeans' reaction to Casey
These are some of the comments addressed to Mr. Casey:
Why oh why do you think you are so much better than others just because you happen to have cash . . . shame on you mate, shame!’Another wrote: ‘Can I sue this guy for insulting me?
You are lucky that you are rich, but don’t look down on the poor because you have no ****ing idea what they have to go through. The company where Anton Casey is connected with, spoke about the incident as well. It's spokesman said:
Crossinvest does not condone the offending comments. We believe they were made in poor taste. Crossinvest has clear policies regarding codes of conduct expected of its employees. Those codes extend to social media.
We are currently investigating the comments made by our employee and will take appropriate action once we are in possession of all the facts. And then, the British expat apologized
The former London stockbroker, later on sent the following apology through a PR company:
I would like to extend a sincere apology to the people of Singapore. I have the highest respect and regard for Singapore and the good people of Singapore; this is my home. I wish for nothing more than to be forgiven for my poor judgment and given a second chance to rebuild the trust people have had in me as a resident of this wonderful countryBut then again, there are notions that Mr. Casey was just forced to ask for forgiveness because of the extent of insults and threats that bombarded him after his offending statements towards the Singaporeans.
