Former Gov. Bob McDonnell and Wife Maureen McDonnell Face Corruption Charges

Virginia's former Governor Bob McDonnell and wife Maureen McDonnell were charged on Tuesday for illegally accepting cash, goods and other perks in exchange for promoting a nutritional supplement product of a certain company.


Among the allegations of the Federal prosecutors state that Bob and Maureen McDonnell received hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash plus high end jewelry and even luxury trips from businessman Johnnie R. Williams, the then CEO of a vitamin company, Star Scientific.

The court's indictment states that the McDonnells asked Williams for a "rain check". As demanded, the said check came in April 2011. Eventually, Bob and Maureen travelled to New York City to buy an Oscar de la Renta gown worth $10,099, a Louis Vuitton item for $5,685 and something big at Bergdorf Goodman, which amounted to $2,604.

In exchange to the gifts received by Bob McDonnell and Maureen McDonnell, they used their influence to promote Star Scientific's line of dietary products.

The following assets will be due for turn over, should the McDonells get convicted:

One button-down Ralph Lauren shirt;
One white Peter Millar golf shirt;
One baby blue striped Peter Millar golf shirt;
One royal blue Peter Millar golf shirt;
One aqua Fairway Greene Tech golf shirt;
One white striped Ralph Lauren golf shirt;
One Ping University of Virginia golf bag;
