The new health care mandate is crafted for religious organizations, wherein medical companies or suppliers are required to provide contraceptives and other drugs that may assist abortion.
Sotomayor gave her order of stay, addressing the request of Catholic nuns in Colorado, the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged.
The said religious groups argue that the affordable health care violates their religious practices.
Hours before coverage was set to begin, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor temporarily blocked a component of the Affordable Care Act that mandated some religious groups provide birth control under their health plans.Meanwhile, lawyer Mark Rienzi said:
The government has lots of ways to deliver contraceptives to people ..It doesn't need to force nuns to participate.Limited condition it may be, the nun are bound to sign a form "authorizing their insurance company to provide contraceptive coverage", which is still in a way, violating their religions beliefs.
Rienzi added:
Without an emergency injunction, Mother Provincial Loraine Marie Maguire has to decide between two courses of action: (a) sign and submit a self-certification form, thereby violating her religious beliefs; or (b) refuse to sign the form and pay ruinous fines (Source)
