Total gun ban in Iloilo during Dinagyang festival 2014

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be enforcing a total gun ban in Iloilo during the Dinagyang Festival, which is from January 20 to 27.


The gun ban will commence from the midnight of Jan. 20, Iloilo's The Daily Guardian said on Thursday.

As Western Visayas police head Chief Superintendent Josephus Angan said:

This (is) part of our security preparation to ensure that the celebration of the Dinagyang Festival will be free from firearm-related incidents and ensure safety of the populace and tourists

The gun ban will also apply to individuals with permit to carry outside of residence.

Part of the implementation of the total gun ban during the observance of the Dinagyang Festival will be police units running checkpoints in the major parts of the city.

Dinagyang remembers the day when "a replica of the image of the Santo Niño was first brought from Cebu by the San Jose Parish in Iloilo City".
