The Philippines Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reiterated a reminder regarding a ban on sky lanterns that are mostly set to fly into the sky during the new year's eve. The public is being informed about the possible dangers sky lanterns could bring, since they linger into the sky on their own, once on the flight.

The BFP even called the sky lanterns as "To Whom it May Concern". No one knows where wind will take them. Engineer Ariel Miranda, chief of the BFP's Fire Safety and Environment said:
Yung sky lantern kapag pinalipad natin yan ang tawag naming diyan 'To Whom It May Concern'. Di mo alam kung saan dadalin ng hangin
Sky lanterns are considered as open burning. It should be manned and controlled. Unfortunately, it does not go as how it should be.

In December last year, at least two fire incidents reported as due to sky lanterns.

The fire bureau strongly reminds the public to stick with the ban. In case of fire incidence, the BFP's hotline number is 426-3812.
