The former Formula One seven times world champ motor racer hit his head on a rock during the said ski run. It was a hard fall that his helmet had shattered.
According to Schumacher's head anaesthetician at the CHU hospital in the eastern French city of Grenoble, Jean-Francois Payen:
We can say that his condition is life-threatening ..For the moment we cannot say what Michael Schumacher's future is ..We are working round the clock - we are trying to win time.
His helmet did of course protect him at least partly. Someone who had suffered a similar accident without a helmet would not have made it here (to the hospital)At the initial stage, Michael Schumacher was conscious while being transported to a nearby hospital in Moutiers and then to Grenoble. His condition went bad, unfortunately.
Stephan Chabardes, the attending Neurosurgeon for Schumacher said, an immediate brain scan was carried out, wherein his team discovered "internal bleeding and injuries including contusions and lesions."
The necessary operation was performed to address the internal bleeding going on the racer's head.
At the moment, the doctors considers Schumacher under an artificial coma.
Meanwhile, no further operation intervention are set at this stage, the doctors added.
Hopes, wishes and prayers are being sent for the survival and speedy recovery of Michael Schumacher.
