GMA Network tops in Department of Health's Media Awards

GMA News TV and GMA News Online reigned supreme over more than 100 media stories (online and print) submitted to the Department of Health’s media recognition program, also known as "Parangal sa mga Kwentong Kalusugan Pangkalahatan (Recognizing Stories on Universal Health Care)".
The GMA News TV bested in its feature of a volunteer doctor who worked 25 years with the Blaan Tribe of the high mountains in Southern Philippines. The Investigative Documentary on nutrition, in relation to obesity in general, also won.

For GMA News Online, the following programs won as well:

1. "Online media category" - Claire Delfin's "More Than Half a Million Pinoy Kids Suffer from Severe Malnutrition" and;

2. Patricia Denise M. Chiu's special cover for "At Fabella Hospital, Moms are Human Incubators."

There were 22 finalists in the said media recognition program of the DOH. Ten (10) winning stories were chosen in the end.

Among the judges are Usec. Janette Garin, Dr. Israel Francis A. Pargas (PhilHealth), Cheche Lazaro (The Probe Media Foundation) and Red Batario (Center for Community Journalism & Development (CCJD).
