Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 Update Could Start Before Android 4.3 Finishes

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update could start before the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update finishes given that the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update is pegged for a February or March release and Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean releases are currently slated for the month of March.
All the way back in October, Samsung started rolling out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, an update that delivered Galaxy Gear support, Samsung Knox and a number of other tweaks and enhancements to Galaxy S4 owners. The update landed for the Sprint and Verizon models in late October and the update proceeded to roll out for other American carriers in the weeks afterward.
As we have pointed out, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is still ongoing, several months later. In fact, it now looks like there is a chance that we could see the Android 4.4 KitKat update arrive before the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update finishes rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S4.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update release is rumored for February or March. French carrier SFR claims that it will roll out the update by the end of February though the carrier still hasn’t committed to a specific date. Interestingly enough, there are at least two major Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates remaining, updates that could potentially land around the same time that the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade begins. Perhaps, even after it starts.
Optus recently delayed its Samsung Galaxy S4 4G Plus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update due to critical issues impacting the software. More recently, Australian carrier Telstra confirmed that its Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update could be more than a month out, with an availability date currently pegged as March 17th. For its part, Optus believes that it will get the update pushed out either by the end of February or in the early part of March.
What this means is that we could see the Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out before the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update finishes up. At the very least, it means that at least some Galaxy S4 users are going to likely be pretty far behind the curve when it comes to the Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out. An Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll outs in late February and mid-March do not bode well for a fast upgrade to Android 4.4.
The good news is that Samsung still hasn’t announced anything meaning the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat release is up in the air. That said, with rumors and carriers pointing to February or March and leaks suggesting that Samsung is making progress, we could very well see the Android 4.4 KitKat release beat the completion of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out.
