Indonesian volcano erupts, kills 14

At least 14 died when a volcano in Indonesia erupted on Saturday (Feb. 1), sending thick smokes to the sky over Karo, North Sumatra, Indonesia.


Volcano erupts in Indonesia. Mount Sinabung is located in North Sumatra. The victims, mostly in a village called Sukameriah, were hit by hot ash clouds.

Aside from the 14 lives lost, three (3) other people were injured.

By estimate, the volcano released about 2,000 meters high columns of ashes.

Local search and rescue teams will be deployed to the affected areas on Sunday.

The last volcanic activity of mount Sinabung was in 2010.
